About the town

Faggiano is a town in the Taranto province in the Apulia region of the southeast Italy. The town is on the southern side of Monte Doro, a not so high hill part of Murgia and partially covered by pinewood trees. The town was established in September 2002. The documented history of Faggiano starts in the Middle Ages, when some Basilian monks lived in the neighborhood of the present village.

Among the monuments of historical and cultural interest it is worth to notice the Mother Church of Santa Maria Assunta and the church of Santa Maria del Carmine in the main plaza of the town. The church of the Rosary, which is close to the main church, presumably dates back to the same period.

About the twinning agreement

A twinning agreement was signed in September 2016 between Bethlehem, represented by its then Mayor, Ms. Vera Baboun, and Faggiano, represented by its then Mayor, Mr. Antonio Cardea. The agreement aimed to maintain permanent ties between the two municipalities in order to promote dialogue, exchange of experiences and implement all joint activities that may foster mutual improvements in all domains of interest. This will be done to encourage and support exchanges between the fellow citizens to ensure, through greater mutual understanding and efficient cooperation, the true spirit of brotherhood.
