Carmen Ghattas, Head of the Public Relations Department at Bethlehem Municipality, briefed a women's delegation from several German cities on the general situation in Bethlehem, with particular emphasis on the role of Bethlehem's women in decision-making positions within the city.
She began by introducing the delegation to the history of Bethlehem Municipality, highlighting Ms. Vera Baboun, who became the first woman to serve as Mayor of Bethlehem. Ghattas described Baboun as a role model for women in Bethlehem and throughout Palestine.
She also informed the delegation about the challenges faced by Palestinian women, whether as mothers of martyrs, wives of prisoners, or mothers striving to overcome the difficulties of daily life to secure a brighter future for their children.
