About the city
Cordoba is located in Southern Spain and is the capital of the province of Cordoba. In the middle ages, Cordoba was considered the capital of the Islamic Caliphate, specifically the Umayyad State, and was then one of the largest cities in the world.
Today, it is a modern medium-sized city, with its many ancient architectural features. Cordoba is home to many famous poets and philosophers, like Ibn Rushd.
About the agreement
In September 1987, Bethlehem Municipal Council approved the twining agreement between the city of Bethlehem and the Spanish city of Cordoba. In November 1988, the twinning was signed by the then Bethlehem mayor, Mr. Elias Freij and the then mayor of Cordoba, Mr. Hermino Telrigo. At the time, Cordoba showed its support for the Palestinian people and their right to self-determination and independence.
